The goal of hospice is comfort and quality of life for individuals with a life-limiting illness and their families.
Hospice is a fully covered Medicare/Medicaid benefit, and it is also covered by many private insurance companies. Most plans cover hospice care, along with the medications, medical supplies and medical equipment related to the hospice prognosis.
The following services are covered under the Hospice benefit:

To receive the hospice benefit, a patient must meet the hospice criteria to be admitted. They must have a life-threatening illness with a 6 months prognosis. All equipment and medication are only covered if they are related to the hospice diagnosis, are for comfort measure or are not deemed non-aggressive in treatment.
