Our mission at Adaptive Hospice is

“We are dedicated to providing the highest quality of care with compassion, dignity, and respect for each individual person and their families.”

Part of the way we can achieve this goal is, by having volunteers come alongside our team of professional staff in providing care to our patients as they are in the end-of-life transition to help make it as peaceful and painless as possible.

Adaptive Hospice Volunteer Process

In order to fulfill Medicare requirements, part of the process of becoming a volunteer with Adaptive Hospice involves an interview and free on-going training. During the interview process we will conduct a background check. The free training we offer will cover various topics to help better equip our volunteers with the ability to successfully help us reach our goal with our patients and their families. Throughout the year we will also have various training’s as refreshers and providing updates on how Adaptive Hospice is doing!

Ways to Volunteer with Adaptive Hospice

There are multiple ways a person can volunteer with us, and can be broken into one of two categories:

Direct Volunteers:

Also called “Patient Volunteers”. These individuals are those who decide that the best way to give back is to be directly involved with our patients and their families. These individuals can do any of the following while providing in-person care:

  • Helping patients and families with household chores
  • Running errands for a patient
  • Companionship (some examples are)
    • Cooking a meal while at a patient home
    • Playing an instrument for a patient
    • Reading a book to a patient
    • Pray with a patient or family member
    • Write letters with a patient
    • Other forms of companionship
  • Lawn care
  • Pet care

Indirect Volunteers

Also called “Administrative Volunteers” These individuals are those who decide the best way to give back is helping in one of our local office locations with various day to day office work Examples of what an indirect volunteer can do are:

  • Answering phone calls
  • Filing paperwork
  • Assisting with patient and family mailings
  • Data Entry
  • Creating information packets
  • Creating Recruitment packets
  • Preforming “Tuck-in” calls (calling patients/caregivers)

As we strive to provide professional levels of care to our patients, we ask that our Direct Volunteers refrain from doing the following while volunteering with a patient:

  • Administering medicine (A volunteer should not touch prescription medicine)
  • Feed a patient (Food can be cooked, but not fed)
  • Transportation
  • Other physical caring needs (transferring, bathing, changing clothing, etc.)
